Privacy policy
Your money records are private. We use them only to run Mizu for you. We do not sell them and we do not show you ads based on them.
Who looks after your data
Mizu is run by the Mizu team.
What we keep
- Your account: name, phone number, country, and your password (stored scrambled, so nobody can read it).
- What you record: budgets, savings jars, business sales and spending, and money owed between you and other people.
- Other people you record: the name and phone number of someone in "Who owes who" or a customer who bought on credit. Only add people you really deal with.
- Group records: if you are in a group, the officials record your savings, loans, fines and meeting attendance.
- Safety log: important actions (like a payment recorded or a setting changed), with the time and internet address, so groups can see who did what.
- One cookie to keep you logged in. No advertising or tracking cookies.
Who can see it
- You see everything in your account.
- Your group's officials see the group's records about you (savings, loans, fines). They do not see your personal tools: your budget, savings jars, business book or who owes who.
- The other person in a record sees that one record when you send them its link.
- A lender sees your name, phone and the amount only if you send them an enquiry.
- Our hosting company stores the data for us and may not use it for anything else.
We never sell your data. We share it with authorities only when the law requires it.
How long we keep it
As long as your account is open. When you delete your account, your personal records are deleted. Records that belong to a group (your savings and loans in that group) stay with the group, because the group needs them to keep its books right; your login is removed.
Your rights
- See and download your data: Settings → My data.
- Correct it: change it in the app, or ask your group's officials for group records.
- Delete your account: Settings → My data.
- Complain to the data protection authority where you live (in Zambia, the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner).
Keeping it safe
Passwords are scrambled, the site uses a secure connection, and every important action is logged. Mizu will never ask for your mobile money PIN; if a page asks for it, it is not Mizu.
Changes
If this policy changes in an important way, we will tell you in the app first.
